University of Pretoria
There are three universities in Pretoria, each with its own faculties and areas of specialisation that prepare young adults for the working world. The University of Pretoria is popular among students who go on to study towards their Masters and PhD. There are nine faculties here, with the most popular being law, humanities, engineering, education and veterinary science. The university was established in 1920 and is home to approximately 39,000 students.
Tshwane University of Technology
For a more "hands-on" university experience, there are two Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) campuses situated in the Pretoria suburbs of Arcadia and Soshanguve. With seven faculties, TUT has many qualifications, some including Information and Communication Technology, Management Sciences, and Engineering and the Built Environment.
University of South Africa (UNISA)
For those who prefer distance learning, the University of South Africa (UNISA) is a well-suited option. There are two UNISA campuses in the city, situated in the suburbs of Muckleneuk and the Sunnyside.
If a university degree is not on the cards, students have a number of colleges to choose from that offer a wider variety of qualifications such as diplomas and certificates.
